GREETER/USHER MINISTRY DESCRIPTION

Purpose:
The Greeter/Usher Ministry establishes a warm and friendly reception of all members and visitors of Hope, and to meet their immediate needs with a servant’s heart.

1. Arrive promptly, 15 minutes before the service, and remain on duty 15 minutes after the service. Pass out bulletins.
2. No shorts or tee shirts.
3. Be friendly, smile, and carry breath mints with you.
4. Leave last row empty for latecomers or parents with children.
5. If the building is crowded, make a mental note of empty seats. Let regulars seat themselves. Escort visitors to a seat.
6. Close the sanctuary doors when the service begins and do not seat people during prayer time.
7. Introduce visitors to others who might have common interests, ministries, job, age group, etc., so they will know you are interested in them.
8. Be alert to people’s needs (i.e.: temperature of the building, someone hurting that might need encouragement or prayer, sickness, etc.)
9. Bring pen and paper to write down suggestions that would better the ministry, also for visitor’s names, address and phone numbers if a visitor’s book in not available.
10. Know where the classrooms, bathrooms and nursery are so you can give directions or information concerning the same.
11. Answer telephone calls during the service.
12. For their own safety, do not let small children go outside by themselves.
13. After the service make sure the sanctuary doors are open and especially let the visitors know how glad you were to see them.
14. Be faithful. If you can’t make it, ask another greeter to substitute, and let the church office know.
